Writer’s Bloc 3 (2012)

This time we had twelve plays at the festival, 33 performances in all, with playwrights from five Indian cities…plays in English, Hindi and Marathi. Productions toured to Bombay from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Pune. We had many wonderful collaborations with different institutions including NID students who designed the theatre frontage and Whistling Woods International who made all the play trailers. It was also the first time we were able to bring in a director from the UK for one of the plays. Hachette India published our first collection of plays, Sightlines. Workshops, discussions, music performances, short plays made the entire festival vibrant and memorable. The festival also travelled to Bangalore for the first time. And in November 2012 the Royal Court invited five plays to the UK to perform a week of play reading at their Theatre Upstairs.

“The event to look forward to early next year is the Writers’ Bloc festival. When the Rage Trio thought of this festival that focussed on the playwright and on creating new work, there used to be this eternal lament about the shortage of fresh plays by Indian writers. Over the years – and a lot of the credit goes to Rage-this problem has been sorted” – The Times of India

“It’s a one-of-a-kind theatre fest that delves deep into a playwright’s script and puts the script at the focal point of the theatre experience.” – DNA
